What is WOOM

Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) is a space where we gather and share the wisdom of women who have influenced our lives.

We collect expressions passed down through the years, from mother to daughter, and between friends. We invite you to share special sentiments that stand the test of time.

Thoughtful, insightful, inspiring. Funny, witty, heartwarming. Life guidance from a woman’s perspective. Because the world needs more WOOM.

Why WOOM ?

WOOM was created by mother-daughter team Sherri T. and Lisa T. One coffee-filled afternoon, we were talking about sources of inspiration. Pirke Avot (pronounced pir-kay ah-vote), an ancient text from the second century CE, was on the table.

Translated as Ethics of the Fathers, it is one of the most influential texts of ethical or moral guidance in the history of humankind. Principles like “Do unto others…” and “Repair the world” are still as relevant — if not more — as they were centuries ago. A copy sat in our home library entitled Words of Our Fathers.

Substantive as this guidance is, we wondered what our mothers had to say. At a time where culture and society are in need of more humanity, we’re sure a kinder, slower, smarter, softer approach can move us forward.

By sharing what resonates with us as individuals, we hope to touch the lives of many. With that, Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) was born.

How it works

There are two ways to share WOOM:

share wisdom and say thanks

To share wisdom, submit an expression or saying (20 words or less). Anything goes, from humorous one-liners to philosophical life advice. If it resonates with you, it likely resonates with others. For example: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”

Say thanks is where we express gratitude. These are short tributes to the women we love and why they mean so much (200 words or less).

If your submission is chosen, we will contact you. Because WOOM is a collective authorship, we will not publish your name in full.
