Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) is a sole proprietorship based in Toronto, Ontario. WOOM is committed to protecting the privacy of our contributors, clients and other stakeholders.

We maintain your electronic address on file in order to send you, from time to time, our newsletter that will contain our blog and any other relevant updates that we believe may be of interest to you, such as notification of a book of collected blogs, or the dates and venues of WOOM speaking engagements. You must sign up in order to receive these updates, which will pertain solely to the content of Words of Our Mothers (WOOM). While you have signed up voluntarily for these updates, you may choose to unsubscribe from them at any time.  

We also maintain a record of our correspondence with you in the event that we need to contactyou to clarify the details of any tribute material you have sent us or to request your permission to post or print the tribute material you have submitted. Any material that we post with your permission to social media sites, such as Facebook or Instagram, will be subject to the privacy policies and terms of use of those sites.

In order to protect your privacy, we ask that you make written tributes using only your first name and the first name of the woman about whom you are writing. You may also choose, at your discretion, to include your family name if you agree to disclose further information about your own identity. If you use family name(s) or other identifying information of other people in your content, you guarantee to us that you have acquired that third party’s express consent to do so, and that that person is aware of and has agreed to this Privacy Policy.

Similarly, if you participate in any Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) discussions at community meetings, we ask that you identify yourself by your first name only unless you choose to disclose your own family name or any other identifying information.  

Use of information

The information that you provide to Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) will be used only for the purpose of collecting and telling stories about the woman (or women) who have played a significant role in your life. Under no circumstances will we use, trade or sell this material for any other purpose.

Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) does not track your browsing activity on our website. We do not maintain cookies (we only bake them and eat them!).

You will also be asked for personal information if you purchase any products at our WOOMshop. Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) does not collect or maintain this personal information. It is collected and safeguarded by the payment platforms we use for gift purchases.

Information safeguards

Any personal information that you provide to Words of Our Mothers (WOOM) is kept physically and electronically secure, with access restricted to the individuals who require it to perform necessary maintenance functions on our website and associated social media links. Our software is updated periodically to maximize protection of information.

With respect to the gifts for purchase that are available from our WOOMshop, we employ only pay platforms that ensure the highest security.
